About the event

Join us at Grow Wilder for an introduction to the traditional craft of hedge laying. Lead by local hedge layer Mike Reed, this 1-day course will cover:

-Reasons we lay hedges

-The different styles of laid hedge (the course will focus on North Somerset style)

-The tools required and how to use them safely

-How to lay a hedge using hand tools (billhook, axe, saw, etc)

-How to build a laid hedge and stake it

-Ongoing maintenance

This course will be predominantly a practical outdoors course and you should dress appropriately for bad weather.

Changes from previous years:

These days are always popular but based on feedback from attendees and tutors, we've decided to reduce the group size for each day - places are therefore limited and we won't be releasing any more for 2025.

Whilst this means that individual ticket prices have increased, we are pleased to invite attendees of either Hedge Laying day to attend our Biochar Day on Saturday 22nd Feb - this is an ideal follow-up session and there is no additional charge to attend this workshop. Tickets for our Biochar Day are not available separately.
