We are excited to announce that The Avon Wildlife Trust’s Nextdoor Nature project is starting in Somer Valley!

Nextdoor Nature Somer Valley

Imagine leaving your house and stepping onto a street filled with flowers, birdsong, and fresh vegetables growing. We know that having nature on our doorsteps is good for our physical and mental health, and it also helps us to better connect to each other, strengthening community bonds. That is why we at the Avon Wildlife Trust want to support bringing your nature-focused dreams into reality.

Nextdoor Nature Somer Valley covers the districts Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Peasdown St Johns and Paulton. Not sure if your area is included? Reach out using the contact below to check.

What is Nextdoor Nature?

Nextdoor Nature is a national campaign by The Wildlife Trusts as part of Team Wilder’s community-led action for nature’s recovery.  The scale of change is great: we need thousands of people to take action. Team Wilder is about empowering and resourcing people to visibly take actions that bring about nature’s recovery. The project aims to raise understanding about the urgent need for change, and to recognise individuals and communities' own roles in making that change happen.

Nextdoor Nature Bristol

The Avon Wildlife Trust’s Bristol project has been established for one year and Tay, Bristol’s Nextdoor Nature Community Organiser, says:

‘So far, we’ve been working to create a community allotment on a council estate in Redcliffe, create new jobs and planting in urban areas of Barton Hill, build planters along a street in Easton and dream up plans for a community garden in St George.’

Nextdoor nature takes a community organising approach, working with local people to support projects to germinate from the ground up. We want to help build connections, to ensure community projects are sustainable and supported. Support can take any from, but it might include having our Team Wilder Community Ecologist visit and assess a site to offer advice to support biodiversity; help to provide community trainings, so that members feel empowered with knowledge and experience to manifest their dreams; and support with project timelines, funding applications, or outreach.

Want to get involved in Somer Valley?

As part of our outreach we are also looking for natural leaders, those with energy, strength, passion and connections that can help us bring people together and drive community-led decision making. So, if this is you, or you know someone we should hear about, please get in touch.
