Ian Barrett has announced he is leaving his post as Chief Executive of Avon Wildlife Trust after 8 years. He shared the following message for everyone connected with the Trust.

"I have some news. After 8 years with Avon Wildlife Trust, I have decided it is time to move on.

Leading the Trust has been a massive privilege and I am immensely proud of the team we have built and what we have achieved over that time. There have been so many highlights in the work we’ve done to improve wildlife habitats, support people to take action for nature, and persuade local Councils to recognise the ecological emergency and accelerate action for nature.

The Trust has ambitious plans to acquire more land to restore habitats and engage people.

For me though, after eight years, it’s time for something new. I’m moving to a new role leading an organisation with similarly exciting plans to demonstrate the role of nature in addressing the climate, ecosystems and health crises facing our world - and engage, inspire and empower people to make change happen.

Avon Wildlife Trust will shortly be starting the search for an interim Chief Executive to carry things forward in the short term, before advertising the permanent role in due course. This will be a fantastic opportunity to lead an organisation through an ambitious delivery phase, making a substantial positive impact on the natural environment for people and wildlife.
