The wildflower nursery grows native wildflowers for the creation of habitats for wildlife from a garden or allotment scale to local community projects and larger.
Together with the wider Grow Wilder site, this educates and inspires people to take action in their own areas as well as being a vital source of income for Grow Wilder.
This Grow Wilder placement will be to assist with running the wildflower nursery over the 2022 growing season, coordinating volunteer groups, ensuring volunteers are kept safe and supported in their work. You will work closely with Grow Wilder’s Wildflower Nursery Officer helping to produce and sell native wildflowers and herb plants as well as having the opportunity to help with wildflower displays and events. Over time, you may wish to take on more responsibility and a wider range of tasks that will help you with your personal development, if desired.
Areas of volunteer activity
Tasks may include any or all of the following:
Working in the wildflower nursery, plant sales area and wildflower display areas tasks may include:

- Welcoming, advising and inspiring customers
- Organisation and maintanence of the growing areas and plant sales
- Preparing and despatching plant orders
- Sales website administration – growwilder.co.uk
- Watering and daily nursery tasks
- Sowing, potting on, propagation of wildflower and food plants
- Planting and maintenance of wildflower display areas
- Helping promote the site and nursery
In addition to:
- Tool safety demonstration, delegation and demonstration of tasks and eventually being able to lead volunteer groups.
- Positive and informative engagement with the public.
- Working with volunteer groups to complete daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal tasks.
Desirable attributes and skills
- Experience or keen interest in growing native wildflowers and herbs
- An enthusiastic and organised approach to work, care and attention to detail
- Able to facilitate/ oversee small groups of volunteers
- A respect/care for tools and resources on site
- Ability to listen, learn and take note with a view to becoming more autonomous
- Being able to document your learning and successfully train up others, as required

Specific and in-depth training will be given to Placements as part of the personal development for their role and this will include the H&S Induction Training for volunteers.
