While we take this exciting step forward it is also a worthy opportunity to reflect on the turbulent times the site has seen through lockdown. Like many organizations we have experienced and continue to face tough times.
Originally facing complete site closure in the face of coronavirus in March, a dedicated group of staff and volunteers were determined to remain active and so set themselves the heady challenge of creating an online shop and home delivery service from scratch. The mission was to tackle the ecological crisis during lockdown by inspiring people to grow wildflowers and vegetables in their own gardens, allotments or balconies. In doing so we could continue supporting pollinators as well as provide an opportunity for people to connect with nature despite needing to stay home.
We have since gone on to grow and sell tens of thousands of wildflower and vegetable plants that have been delivered all over the country. Knowing that so many people are now growing their own veg and wildflowers gives us immense reward and it has also raised money to support the future work of the Avon Wildlife Trust, who along with many other charities have been hit incredibly hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
Now looking to the future, we want to continue pushing forward with the amazing momentum built up from the success of the online store. We are delighted in seeing families and groups of friends back at Grow Wilder taking joy in the thriving nature we have on site and becoming inspired to take action. As restrictions ease we hope to bring more activities back on site soon including education events and community groups.
