What is the Team Wilder Ecological Advisory Service?

There is a significant potential to help wildlife flourish in our region and create nature-rich neighbourhoods for all to enjoy.

Free professional advice is available from Amie, the Team Wilder Community Ecologist. TWEAS is the name of this service and it offers support to individuals and communities in Avon (Bristol, BANES, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset) who want to take action for nature.

Get specific advice to make your garden, community space or land/small holding more wildlife friendly. Learn about the creation and management of small-scale wildlife habitats and/or habitat features that will work on your patch.

The Team Wilder Community Ecologist will offer advice via a site visits, video call or workshop, mapping and coordinating activities to ensure maximum impact for wildlife and connectivity between green spaces. TWEAS will run until March 2025.

*Update (Dec 2024)*

The Team Wilder Ecological Advisory Service (TWEAS) is now closed for enquiries. Thank you so much to everyone who has requested advice to enhance space for nature! To date, TWEAS has given advice on over 257 hectares of land since it started in April 2023, that’s equivalent to 317 football pitches! TWEAS is a pilot project which finishes in early 2025, we hope to grow the advice and support we can provide over the next few years - watch this space for future updates!

Please note! Even though enquiries are now closed, you can see some of the advice shared from this service on the case studies and resources below. The stories include examples of recommended management plans. Ecological advice was also given out to all of the wildlife gardening competition finalists and winners.

Team Wilder Community Ecologist

Team Wilder community Ecologist, Amie Cook

Hello! I’m Amie; the Team Wilder Community Ecologist. I’m here to provide free ecological advice to support the creation and management of small-scale wildlife habitats within your community, land or garden!

I will be providing advice through the Team Wilder Ecological Advisory Service (TWEAS) to help you take action for nature, locally. Scroll down to let us know about your project or site, to request a call with me to discuss how we can help, and upload your project location to the Team Wilder map!

How will I receive the free advice?

After filling out a short form, you'll either receive a site visit, video chat or online workshop.

Online workshops will run to help answer re-occurring topics or queries. These will include Q&A, providing opportunities for others to share their journey, experiences and successes. All workshops will be recorded and shared on our website, with free access for all.

We want to share the love and create relevant Team Wilder Resources. With permission, case studies will be developed about new and improved habitats created, with step-by-step guides to inspire others to take action for wildlife.

The Team Wilder Community Map submission will keep you in the loop about local free training, events, opportunities and resources. Or see what's local to you. You can also upload your actions for nature to inspire and motivate others to do the same.

After your consultation, you will receive a report to cover what was discussed and outline any recommendation/advice given. Each community or individual is entitled to one video call and site visit (If required) and one follow-up video call or site visit six months at a later date after the advice has been given, to record and track progress against the advice given.

Help inspire others to take action for nature

We would like to continue to provide free ecological advice to communities and individuals to support them in creating and enhancing habitats and help Avon's wildlife thrive. If you have received advice through TWEAS and feel that it helped you progress with a project, then you can help keep it going through a voluntary donation today. Any gift, no matter how large or small, will help open up that opportunity to others and contribute towards nature’s recovery.
