What is the Team Wilder Ecological Advisory Service?

Together we can help wildlife flourish in our region and create nature-rich neighbourhoods for all to enjoy

The Team Wilder Ecological Advisory Service pilot project has come to a close (March 2025) , thank you to everyone who got in touch and made more space for wildlife to thrive!

Over the past 2 years, our Community Ecologist has answered over 188 enquries and has been on over 150 site visits, providing free professional advice to support individuals and communities in Avon (Bristol, BANES, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset) to make and manage space for nature. Overall we have advised on over 372 hectares of land, which is equivalent to over 210 football pitches!

From urban gardens, GP surgeries, schools, to community spaces and small scale land holdings, our Team Wilder Community Ecologists provided tailored advice that helped people to learn about the creation and management of wildlife habitats and features - from ponds, stumperies, woodlands, meadows, to wildlife friendly growing space, encouraging more wildlife back to our neighbourhoods.

Even though enquiries are now closed, you can see some of the advice shared from this service through the case studies and resources below. What will you do next for nature? Sign up to Team Wilder to find out more about how you can help wildlife to thrive where you live...

Your Feedback

"Last year I put in 182 trees. All of the planting in this area went in as a result of talking with Amie (Community Ecologist). All the oaks are acorns that I’ve collected myself, started in pots and then planted out... I’ve now planted a native hedge and eventually I want to take the fence out and manage my livestock completely with a hedgerow.

I think the most important thing for me was coming away from the consultation with an action plan, a ‘to do’ list. Because sometimes you’re not sure where to start, but actually we’ve achieved so much on that list. Planting native trees has been the biggest thing that TWEAS has helped with. Also, the confidence it’s given me. The report has helped me to know that I’m doing the right thing."

"I felt like Esther's (Community Ecologist) voice is like the voice of wildlife. So I see that as another stakeholder."

"This is a fantastic report with lots of useful information.... it’s a fantastic service to provide good quality advice that is helpful for the community. It really works and supports nature and human wellbeing."
